1Andseeingthe multitudes, he went upintoa mountain: andwhenhewas set, hisdisciplescame untohim: 2Andhe openedhismouth, and taughtthem, saying,
3Blessed are the poorin spirit: fortheirsisthe kingdomof heaven. 4Blessed are they that mourn: fortheyshall be comforted. 5Blessed are the meek: fortheyshall inheritthe earth. 6Blessed are they which do hungerandthirstafter righteousness: fortheyshall be filled. 7Blessed are the merciful: fortheyshall obtain mercy. 8Blessed are the purein heart: fortheyshall seeGod. 9Blessed are the peacemakers: fortheyshall be calledthe childrenof God. 10Blessed are they which are persecutedforrighteousness’sake: fortheirsisthe kingdomof heaven. 11Blessedare ye, when men shall revileyou, andpersecute you, andshall sayall manner ofevilagainstyoufalsely, formysake.
12Rejoice, andbe exceeding glad: forgreat is yourrewardinheaven: forsopersecuted theythe prophetswhich werebeforeyou. 13Yearethe saltof the earth: butifthe salthave lost his savour, wherewithshall it be salted? it isthenceforthgoodfornothing, butto be castout, andto be trodden under footofmen.
14Yearethe lightof the world. A citythat is setonan hillcannotbe hid. 15Neither do men lighta candle, andputitundera bushel, butona candlestick; andit giveth lightunto allthat areinthe house. 16 Let yourlightsoshinebeforemen, thatthey may seeyourgoodworks, andglorifyyourFatherwhich isinheaven.
19Whosoeverthereforeshall breakoneof theseleastcommandments, andshall teachmenso, he shall be calledthe leastinthe kingdomof heaven: butwhosoevershall doandteach them, the sameshall be calledgreatinthe kingdomof heaven. 20ForI sayunto you, Thatexceptyourrighteousnessshall exceed the righteousness of the scribesandPharisees, ye shallin nocaseenterintothe kingdomof heaven.
21Ye have heardthatit was saidby them of old time, Thou shaltnotkill; andwhosoevershall killshall bein dangerof the judgment: 22ButIsayunto you, Thatwhosoeveris angrywithhisbrotherwithout a causeshall bein dangerof the judgment: andwhosoevershall saytohisbrother, Raca, shall bein dangerof the council: butwhosoevershall say, Thou fool, shall bein dangerofhellfire.
23Thereforeifthou bringthygifttothe altar, and thererememberestthatthybrotherhathoughtagainstthee; 24Leavetherethygiftbeforethe altar, andgo thy way; firstbe reconciledtothybrother, andthencomeand offerthygift. 25Agree withthineadversaryquickly, whilesthou artinthe waywithhim; lest at any timethe adversarydelivertheeto the judge, andthe judgedelivertheeto the officer, andthou be castintoprison. 26VerilyI sayunto thee, Thou shalt by nomeanscome outthence, tillthou hast paidthe uttermostfarthing.
27Ye have heardthatit was saidby them of old time, Thou shaltnotcommit adultery: 28ButIsayunto you, Thatwhosoeverlookethon a womantolust afterherhath committed adulterywith heralreadyinhisheart. 29Andifthyrighteyeoffendthee, pluckitout, andcast it fromthee: forit is profitablefor theethatoneofthymembersshould perish, andnot that thywholebodyshould be castintohell. 30Andifthyrighthandoffendthee, cutitoff, andcast it fromthee: forit is profitablefor theethatoneofthymembersshould perish, andnot that thywholebodyshould be castintohell.
31It hath been said, Whosoevershall put awayhiswife, let him givehera writing of divorcement: 32ButIsayunto you, Thatwhosoevershall put awayhiswife, savingfor the causeof fornication, causethherto commit adultery: andwhosoevershall marryher that is divorcedcommitteth adultery.
33Again, ye have heardthatit hath been saidby them of old time, Thou shaltnotforswear thyself, butshalt performunto the Lordthineoaths: 34ButIsayunto you, Swearnotat all; neitherbyheaven; forit isGod’sthrone: 35Norbythe earth; forit ishisfootstool: neitherbyJerusalem; forit isthe cityof thegreatKing. 36Neithershalt thou swearbythyhead, becausethou canstnotmakeonehairwhiteorblack. 37Butletyourcommunicationbe, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: forwhatsoever is more thanthesecomethofevil.
38Ye have heardthatit hath been said, An eyeforan eye, anda toothfora tooth: 39ButIsayunto you, That ye resistnotevil: butwhosoevershall smitetheeonthyrightcheek, turnto himthe otheralso. 40And ifany man willsuetheeat the law, andtake awaythycoat, lethimhave thy clokealso. 41Andwhosoevershall compeltheeto goamile, gowithhimtwain. 42Giveto him that askeththee, andfromhim that wouldborrowof theeturnnotthou away.
43Ye have heardthatit hath been said, Thou shalt lovethyneighbour, andhatethineenemy. 44ButIsayunto you, Loveyourenemies, blessthem that curseyou, dogoodto them that hateyou, andprayforthem which despitefully useyou, andpersecuteyou; 45Thatye may bethe childrenof yourFatherwhich isinheaven: forhe makethhissunto riseonthe evilandon the good, andsendeth rainonthe justandon the unjust.
46Forifye lovethem which loveyou, whatrewardhave ye? donoteventhe publicansthe same? 47Andifye saluteyourbrethrenonly, whatdo ye more than others? donoteventhe publicansso?
48Beyethereforeperfect, even asyourFatherwhich isinheavenisperfect.
