The burdenof the wordof the LORDto IsraelbyMalachi.
I have lovedyou, saiththe LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not EsauJacob’sbrother? saiththe LORD: yet I lovedJacob, 3And I hatedEsau, and laidhis mountainsand his heritagewastefor the dragonsof the wilderness. 4Whereas Edomsaith, We are impoverished, but we will returnand buildthe desolate places; thus saiththe LORDof hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall callthem, The borderof wickedness, and, The peopleagainst whom the LORDhath indignationforever. 5And your eyesshall see, and ye shall say, The LORDwill be magnifiedfrom the borderof Israel.
A sonhonoureth his father, and a servanthis master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saiththe LORDof hostsunto you, O priests, that despisemy name. And ye say, Wherein have we despisedthy name? 7Ye offerpollutedbreadupon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we pollutedthee? In that ye say, The tableof the LORD is contemptible.
And if ye offerthe blindfor sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offerthe lameand sick, is it not evil? offerit now unto thy governor; will he be pleasedwith thee, or acceptthy person? saiththe LORDof hosts. 9And now, I pray you, beseechGodthat he will be graciousunto us: this hath been by your means: will he regardyour persons? saiththe LORDof hosts.
Who is there even among you that would shutthe doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altarfor nought. I have no pleasurein you, saiththe LORDof hosts, neither will I acceptan offeringat your hand. 11For from the risingof the suneven unto the going downof the same my name shall be greatamong the Gentiles; and in every placeincense shall be offeredunto my name, and a pureoffering: for my name shall be greatamong the heathen, saiththe LORDof hosts.
But ye have profanedit, in that ye say, The tableof the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible. 13Ye saidalso, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffedat it, saiththe LORDof hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye broughtan offering: should I acceptthis of your hand? saiththe LORD. 14But cursed be the deceiver, whichhath in his flocka male, and voweth, and sacrificethunto the Lorda corrupt thing: for I am a greatKing, saiththe LORDof hosts, and my name is dreadfulamong the heathen.
