And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. 2If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to givegloryunto my name, saiththe LORDof hosts, I will even senda curseupon you, and I will curseyour blessings: yea, I have cursedthem already, because ye do not lay it to heart.
Behold, I will corruptyour seed, and spreaddungupon your faces, even the dungof your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it. 4And ye shall knowthat I have sentthis commandmentunto you, that my covenantmight be with Levi, saiththe LORDof hosts. 5My covenantwas with him of lifeand peace; and I gave them to him for the fearwherewith he fearedme, and was afraidbeforemy name.
The lawof truthwas in his mouth, and iniquitywas not foundin his lips: he walkedwith me in peaceand equity, and did turnmanyawayfrom iniquity. 7For the priest’slipsshould keepknowledge, and they should seekthe lawat his mouth: for he is the messengerof the LORDof hosts.
But ye are departedout of the way; ye have caused manyto stumbleat the law; ye have corruptedthe covenantof Levi, saiththe LORDof hosts. 9Therefore have I also madeyou contemptibleand basebefore all the people, accordingas ye have not keptmy ways, but have been partialin the law.
Have we not all onefather? hath not oneGodcreatedus? why do we deal treacherouslyevery managainst his brother, by profaningthe covenantof our fathers? 11Judahhath dealt treacherously, and an abominationis committedin Israeland in Jerusalem; for Judahhath profanedthe holinessof the LORDwhich he loved, and hath marriedthe daughterof a strangegod. 12The LORDwill cut offthe manthat doeththis, the masterand the scholar, out of the tabernaclesof Jacob, and him that offerethan offeringunto the LORDof hosts.
And this have ye doneagain, coveringthe altarof the LORDwith tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardethnot the offeringany more, or receiveth it with good willat your hand. 14Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORDhath been witnessbetween thee and the wifeof thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wifeof thy covenant.
And did not he makeone? Yet had he the residueof the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seeka godlyseed. Therefore take heedto your spirit, and let none deal treacherouslyagainst the wifeof his youth. 16For the LORD, the Godof Israel, saiththat he hatethputting away: for one coverethviolencewith his garment, saiththe LORDof hosts: therefore take heedto your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.
Ye have weariedthe LORDwith your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doethevil is goodin the sightof the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the Godof judgment?
