1Woeto them that go downto Egyptfor help; and stayon horses, and trustin chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are verystrong; but they looknot unto the Holy Oneof Israel, neither seekthe LORD! 2 Yet he also is wise, and will bringevil, and will not call backhis words: but will ariseagainst the houseof the evildoers, and against the helpof them that workiniquity. 3Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horsesflesh, and not spirit. When the LORDshall stretch outhis hand, both he that helpethshall fall, and he that is holpenshall fall down, and they all shall failtogether.
4For thus hath the LORDspokenunto me, Like as the lionand the young lionroaringon his prey, when a multitudeof shepherdsis called forth against him, he will not be afraidof their voice, nor abasehimself for the noiseof them: so shall the LORDof hostscome downto fightfor mountZion, and for the hill thereof. 5As birdsflying, so will the LORDof hostsdefendJerusalem; defendingalso he will deliver it; and passing overhe will preserve it. 6Turn ye unto him from whom the childrenof Israelhave deeplyrevolted.
7For in that dayevery manshall cast awayhis idolsof silver, and his idolsof gold, which your own handshave made unto you for a sin. 8Then shall the Assyrianfallwith the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devourhim: but he shall fleefromthe sword, and his young menshall be discomfited. 9And he shall pass overto his strong holdfor fear, and his princesshall be afraidof the ensign, saiththe LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnacein Jerusalem.
