1For the LORDwill have mercyon Jacob, and will yet chooseIsrael, and setthem in their own land: and the strangersshall be joinedwith them, and they shall cleaveto the houseof Jacob. 2And the peopleshall takethem, and bringthem to their place: and the houseof Israelshall possessthem in the landof the LORDfor servantsand handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captivesthey were; and they shall ruleover their oppressors.
3And it shall come to pass in the daythat the LORDshall give thee restfrom thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hardbondagewherein thou wast made to serve, 4That thou shalt take upthis proverbagainst the kingof Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressorceased! the golden cityceased! 5The LORDhath brokenthe staffof the wicked, and the sceptreof the rulers. 6He who smotethe peoplein wrathwith a continualstroke, he that ruledthe nationsin anger, is persecuted, and nonehindereth. 7The whole earthis at rest, and is quiet: they break forthinto singing. 8Yea, the fir treesrejoice at thee, and the cedarsof Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no felleris come up against us.
9Hellfrom beneath is movedfor thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth upthe dead for thee, even all the chief onesof the earth; it hath raised upfrom their thronesall the kingsof the nations. 10All they shall speakand sayunto thee, Art thou also become weakas we? art thou become like unto us? 11Thy pompis brought downto the grave, and the noiseof thy viols: the wormis spreadunder thee, and the wormscover thee.
12How art thou fallenfrom heaven, O Lucifer, sonof the morning! how art thou cut downto the ground, which didst weakenthe nations! 13For thou hast saidin thine heart, I will ascendinto heaven, I will exaltmy throneabovethe starsof God: I will sitalso upon the mountof the congregation, in the sidesof the north: 14I will ascendabove the heightsof the clouds; I will be likethe most High. 15Yet thou shalt be brought downto hell, to the sidesof the pit.
16They that seethee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the manthat made the earthto tremble, that did shakekingdoms; 17 That madethe worldas a wilderness, and destroyedthe cities thereof; that openednot the houseof his prisoners? 18All the kingsof the nations, even all of them, liein glory, every onein his own house.
19But thou art cast outof thy gravelike an abominablebranch, and as the raimentof those that are slain, thrust throughwith a sword, that go downto the stonesof the pit; as a carcasetrodden under feet. 20Thou shalt not be joinedwith them in burial, because thou hast destroyedthy land, and slainthy people: the seedof evildoersshall neverbe renowned.
21Prepareslaughterfor his childrenfor the iniquityof their fathers; that they do notrise, nor possessthe land, nor fillthe faceof the worldwith cities. 22For I will rise upagainst them, saiththe LORDof hosts, and cut offfrom Babylonthe name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saiththe LORD. 23I will also makeit a possessionfor the bittern, and poolsof water: and I will sweepit with the besomof destruction, saiththe LORDof hosts.
24The LORDof hostshath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: 25That I will breakthe Assyrianin my land, and upon my mountainstread him under foot: then shall his yokedepartfrom off them, and his burdendepartfrom off their shoulders. 26 This is the purposethat is purposedupon the whole earth: and this is the handthat is stretched outupon all the nations. 27For the LORDof hostshath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?
28In the yearthat kingAhazdiedwas this burden. 29Rejoicenot thou, whole Palestina, because the rodof him that smotethee is broken: for out of the serpent’srootshall come fortha cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fieryflyingserpent. 30And the firstbornof the poorshall feed, and the needyshall lie downin safety: and I will killthy rootwith famine, and he shall slaythy remnant.
31Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved: for there shall comefrom the northa smoke, and none shall be alonein his appointed times. 32 What shall one then answerthe messengersof the nation? That the LORDhath foundedZion, and the poorof his peopleshall trust in it.
