1And it came to pass in the daysof Ahazthe sonof Jotham, the sonof Uzziah, kingof Judah, that Rezinthe kingof Syria, and Pekahthe sonof Remaliah, kingof Israel, went uptoward Jerusalemto waragainst it, but couldnot prevail against it. 2And it was toldthe houseof David, saying, Syriais confederatewith Ephraim. And his heartwas moved, and the heartof his people, as the treesof the woodare movedwiththe wind.
3Then saidthe LORDunto Isaiah, Go forthnow to meetAhaz, thou, and Shear-jashubthy son, at the endof the conduitof the upperpoolin the highwayof the fuller’sfield; 4And sayunto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fearnot, neither be faintheartedfor the twotailsof these smokingfirebrands, for the fierceangerof Rezinwith Syria, and of the sonof Remaliah. 5Because Syria, Ephraim, and the sonof Remaliah, have taken evilcounselagainst thee, saying, 6Let us go upagainst Judah, and vexit, and let us make a breachtherein for us, and seta kingin the midst of it, even the sonof Tabeal:
7Thussaiththe LordGOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass. 8For the headof Syria is Damascus, and the headof Damascus is Rezin; and within threescoreand fiveyearsshall Ephraimbe broken, that it be not a people. 9And the headof Ephraim is Samaria, and the headof Samaria is Remaliah’sson. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established. 10Moreover the LORDspakeagainunto Ahaz, saying, 11Askthee a signof the LORDthy God; askit either in the depth, or in the heightabove. 12But Ahazsaid, I will not ask, neither will I temptthe LORD.
13And he said, Hearye now, O houseof David; Is it a small thingfor you to wearymen, but will ye wearymy God also? 14Therefore the Lordhimself shall giveyou a sign; Behold, a virginshall conceive, and beara son, and shall callhis nameImmanuel. 15Butterand honeyshall he eat, that he may knowto refusethe evil, and choosethe good. 16For before the childshall knowto refusethe evil, and choosethe good, the landthat thou abhorrestshall beforsaken of bothher kings. 17The LORDshall bringupon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’shouse, daysthat have not come, from the daythat Ephraimdepartedfrom Judah; even the kingof Assyria.
18And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORDshall hissfor the fly that is in the uttermost partof the riversof Egypt, and for the bee that is in the landof Assyria. 19And they shall come, and shall restall of them in the desolatevalleys, and in the holesof the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.
20In the same dayshall the Lordshavewith a razorthat is hired, namely, by them beyondthe river, by the kingof Assyria, the head, and the hairof the feet: and it shall also consumethe beard.
21And it shall come to pass in that day, that a manshall nourisha youngcow, and twosheep; 22And it shall come to pass, for the abundanceof milk that they shall givehe shall eatbutter: for butterand honeyshall every one eatthat is leftinthe land.
23And it shall come to pass in that day, that every placeshall be, where there were a thousandvinesat a thousandsilverlings, it shall even be for briersand thorns. 24With arrowsand with bows shall men comethither; because all the landshall become briersand thorns. 25 And on all hillsthat shall be diggedwith the mattock, there shall not come thitherthe fearof briersand thorns: but it shall be for the sending forthof oxen, and for the treadingof lesser cattle.
