1Behold, the LORDmaketh the earthempty, and maketh it waste, and turnethit upside down, and scattereth abroadthe inhabitants thereof. 2And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, sowith the giver of usury to him. 3The landshall be utterlyemptied, and utterlyspoiled: for the LORDhath spokenthis word. 4The earthmourneth and fadeth away, the worldlanguisheth and fadeth away, the haughtypeopleof the earthdo languish. 5The earthalso is defiledunder the inhabitantsthereof; because they have transgressedthe laws, changedthe ordinance, brokenthe everlastingcovenant.
6Therefore hath the cursedevoured the earth, and they that dwelltherein are desolate: therefore the inhabitantsof the earthare burned, and fewmenleft. 7The new winemourneth, the vinelanguisheth, all the merryhearteddo sigh. 8The mirthof tabretsceaseth, the noiseof them that rejoiceendeth, the joyof the harpceaseth. 9They shall not drinkwinewith a song; strong drinkshall be bitterto them that drink it. 10The cityof confusionis broken down: every houseis shut up, that no man may come in. 11 There is a cryingfor winein the streets; all joyis darkened, the mirthof the landis gone. 12In the cityis leftdesolation, and the gateis smittenwith destruction. 13When thus it shall be in the midstof the landamongthe people, there shall be as the shakingof an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapeswhen the vintageis done. 14They shall lift uptheir voice, they shall singfor the majestyof the LORD, they shall cry aloudfrom the sea.
15Wherefore glorifyye the LORDin the fires, even the nameof the LORDGodof Israelin the islesof the sea. 16From the uttermost partof the earthhave we heardsongs, even gloryto the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woeunto me! the treacherous dealershave dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealershave dealt verytreacherously. 17Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitantof the earth. 18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleethfrom the noiseof the fearshall fallinto the pit; and he that cometh upout of the midstof the pitshall be takenin the snare: for the windowsfrom on highare open, and the foundationsof the earthdo shake. 19The earthis utterlybroken down, the earthis cleandissolved, the earthis movedexceedingly. 20The earthshall reelto and frolike a drunkard, and shall be removedlike a cottage; and the transgressionthereof shall be heavyupon it; and it shall fall, and not riseagain.
21And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORDshall punishthe hostof the high ones that are on high, and the kingsof the earthupon the earth. 22And they shall be gathered together, as prisonersare gatheredin the pit, and shall be shut upin the prison, and after manydaysshall they be visited. 23Then the moonshall be confounded, and the sunashamed, when the LORDof hostsshall reignin mountZion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancientsgloriously.
