1Moreover the LORDsaidunto me, Takethee a greatroll, and writein it with a man’spenconcerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz. 2And I tookunto me faithfulwitnessesto record, Uriahthe priest, and Zechariahthe sonof Jeberechiah. 3And I wentunto the prophetess; and she conceived, and barea son. Then saidthe LORDto me, Callhis nameMaher-shalal-hash-baz. 4For before the childshall have knowledgeto cry, My father, and my mother, the richesof Damascusand the spoilof Samariashall be taken awaybeforethe kingof Assyria.
5The LORDspakealso unto me again, saying, 6Forasmuchas this peoplerefuseththe watersof Shiloahthat gosoftly, and rejoicein Rezinand Remaliah’sson; 7Now therefore, behold, the Lordbringeth upupon them the watersof the river, strongand many, even the kingof Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come upover all his channels, and go overall his banks: 8And he shall passthrough Judah; he shall overflowand go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching outof his wingsshall fillthe breadthof thy land, O Immanuel. 9Associateyourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, allye of farcountries: girdyourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; girdyourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces. 10Takecounseltogether, and it shall come to nought; speakthe word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.
11For the LORDspakethus to me with a stronghand, and instructedme that I should not walkin the wayof this people, saying, 12Sayye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this peopleshall say, A confederacy; neither fearye their fear, nor be afraid. 13Sanctifythe LORDof hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. 14And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stoneof stumblingand for a rockof offenceto boththe housesof Israel, for a ginand for a snareto the inhabitantsof Jerusalem. 15And manyamong them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
16Bind upthe testimony, sealthe lawamong my disciples.
17And I will waitupon the LORD, that hidethhis facefrom the houseof Jacob, and I will look for him. 18Behold, I and the childrenwhom the LORDhath given me are for signsand for wondersin Israelfrom the LORDof hosts, which dwellethin mountZion.
19And when they shall sayunto you, Seekunto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizardsthat peep, and that mutter: should not a peopleseekunto their God? for the livingto the dead?
20To the lawand to the testimony: if they speaknot according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. 21And they shall passthrough it, hardly besteadand hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fretthemselves, and cursetheir kingand their God, and lookupward. 22And they shall lookunto the earth; and behold troubleand darkness, dimnessof anguish; and they shall be drivento darkness.
